Manchester Based Artist Mavamatics on Seismic Theory

Mavamatics

Mavamatics, aka James Mather is a Manchester based drum & bass enthusiast, music producer and DJ. He initially discovered drum & bass in the late 90s and early 2000s after hearing tracks like LTJ Bukem’s Atlantis and Roni Size/Reprazent’s Brown Paper Bag on skate video soundtracks. His passion for drum & bass developed further a few years later while listening to other artists including Calyx & Teebee, Noisia and Omni Trio from the soundtracks of a game and led to the discovery of more and more music within the genre. Some of favourites of the time also include Nu:tone, High Contrast, Logistics, Chase & Status, Marcus Intalex and of course Chase & Status and Pendulum as they became mainstream.

It wasn’t until around 2010 that he took up music production, collaborating with local friends to begin with. Close friends including dBrief and Hardline helped him begin his craft, then eventually he found his own footing and delved deeper into the darker and more percussive/minimal side of drum & bass, often taking inspiration from liquid dnb too. Mavamatics eventually released his first single “Risqué” on Surface Audio in late 2011, then bided his time before launching a full EP release on Dark Arts Recordings in 2017. His craft has been refined and will now be a key contribution artist on Seismic Theory.

Mavamatics can be heard regularly as a guest DJ on Afterdark Radio, playing the latest deep rollers and liquid tracks in the DnB scene on Sunday evenings. Expect to hear some exciting heavy hitters from the man like Mav.
